Exsquiestly Sad Monday May 14, 2007

Courtesy of everyone’s favorite Utahan SAHM, but it’s Spinner.com’s 25 Most Exquisitely Sad Songs in the Whole World.

I’m going to throw it out there, but lists like these should be banded. For the love of god! Not only does it list each song, but you can actually listen to the song directly from iTunes right on the page. So as a warning to anyone who dares sit through all 25 songs in a single sitting; hide the razorblades, bottles of red wine and phone ‘cause these are amazingly depressing.

Choose your poison; The Boss, Radiohead, or Johnny Cash. They’re all here. As a personal aside, until Sunday afternoon I had no idea that David Bowie’s Space Oddity was such a sad song. Don’t know how I missed that one.

No Major Tom! Don’t step out of the space capsule man! Don’t do it!

On another note, I’m just throwing this out there but if I was an attractive dark haired girl with a decent singing voice I would go out and find myself an epically fine drinking problem. Is it just me or is this a new pre-requisite for all the emerging fantastic singers? Lilley Allen, Cat Power, and Amy Winehouse – all fantastic singers, all with massive drinking problems.

There is one grievous omission in the exquisitely sad songs: Modest Mouse – Wild Pack of Family Dogs. Its got everything, kidnapping of his dog, his sister is eaten, the mom crying, dad loses his job, wow, talk about sad.

What happened to OLP Gravity? or Tom Petty’s Echo?

How about the lost Blur CD? That was really sad.
I felt that this list was lacking.

Ah Modest Mouse. Even their happy songs make me want jump off a cliff… God I love Mr. Brock.

Gravity is for Frat Boys. Echo is banned in 39 States for Illegal Misery and I’m just gonna take a knee from the famous Lost Blur Cd.

I’m just glad they gave songs like Brick, Back to Black and the Sea Changes’ Song a spot on the list. Those songs all need to be recognized.
