Random Thoughts For Sklarbro Country Thursday December 30, 2010

Much to my wife’s chagrin, my furry little west-coast professor friend introduced me to the Sklarbro Country Podcast a little over a month ago. Frankly, I am a better person for it.

I know not many people dig comedy podcasts, let alone a sports comedy podcast, but I can’t recommend this enough. It’s a essentially the Sklar Brothers (Two twin brothers) who spew off with a slew of comedic guests on the crazy stories that infect the world of sports. From Delonte West playing against the four horsemen of the apocalypse to Don Cherry’s Pinko comments to Pete Sampras’ inability to value his collection of Wimbledon trophies, the stories these brothers cover are hilarious.

So what are you waiting for, get on board with Sklarbro Country.

First – For those in the business, the demise of yahoo has been an intriguing and kinda scary thing to witness. And I was all good with it, except for kinda feeling for a buddy of mine who was working there. But yahoo’s secret decision to turf my favorite bookmarking tool was a bit too much.

Second – Since the aforementioned SklarBrothers informed me that the Greenman suits comes from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, I have a little more respect for the Vancouver Green Men... I really do hate you’re team, but I’ll give you major props for the Waffle bit.

Third – Boston.com’s stunning work – The Big Picture – is back at it with their year in review.

Fourth – For all you web design nerds out there, one of my favorite artist Nick La, has released his Best of 2010 Web Design.

Fifth – And while I wait in anticipation of the Hood Internet’s Best of 2010, I’ve got to say that the new EP – The HoodInternet vs. Metric is outstanding.

Sixth – Regardless of your opinion of Gary Bettman, you’ve got to admit that the Winter Classic is absolute fantastic idea. I know that the Winter Classic has a special place in my heart and the fact that Mike Knuble and the Washington Capitals are playing in this year’s edition … makes it that much better.

I also love that HBO’s series 24/7, is capturing the entire preceding drama… Including the Cap’s unexpected 8 game losing streak and Bruce Boudreau’s best Alex Baldwin Impression.

Seventh – Last week we went to our friends house for what has been dubbed the Sandwich of Awesome!

That’s right kids….

Home made toasted Garlic Bread, Meatballs, Marinaria Sauce with bacon, Four kinds of Cheese…. and Captain Crunch Onion Rings.

That’s right your colon has just exploded.

Eighth – I’m sorry, but I must have a canvas copy of this

Yeah, that’s a need not a want.

Ninth – For all you design nerds out there, here is a fantastic photoshop template of some gorgeous numerals

… I know, I know… How lame… But shut up. It’s my web site.

Tenth – In case you’re intrested, my New Years Resolution is to get out more… See more plays, see more shows and enjoy life in DC a bit more… So I don’t miss things like The Roots at the 9:30 Club.

Eleventh – I know it’s been a bad season for my beloved Flames and all, but for the love of god, THE FLAME CAN’T LOSE TO THE OILER.

Twelfth – Last but not least, for all you sustainability nerds or even anyone interested in the potential of a high speed rail line between Calgary and Edmonton, have a quick read of Duncan Kinney’s latest blog post.
