Date My Avatar? Wednesday August 26, 2009

This is viral marketing at it’s best.

Some of you may have seen this, but others may not. It’s a new video called Date My Avatar and it’s garnishing a tonne of watches on youtube… Who’s watching I’m not sure, but I’m sure they have either a) An account with Blizzard’s Battlenet or b) Custom Ten sided die that decides what sort of dinner they have or if they should ask out a girl.

Anyways, it’s a pretty good idea and a great buzz. I know for damn sure that I want to figure out what this Guild show is all about.

But oddly enough, it looks like the brains behind the show (Well I think it’s a show anyways) and accompanying video are the unlikely of marketing gurus at … Microsoft.

Either way this just goes to show, if you combine MMORPG content with a bad 90’s rap/techno template and an attractive red-Headed girl that drives half-Japanese men crazy, you’re going to get a hit on your hands.

Update: After some simple research on the internet, it turns out that The Guild is the brainchild of this Felicia Day lady, who seems to be all over the internet. It’s series of Web-episode’s detailing the ‘real-life’ trials and tribulations of a guild of MMORPG players.

I have now lost all street cred.
