Thursday November 23, 2006Have you ever looked at your top 25 most played tracks on itunes? For the longest time my top five tracks have pretty much been Gladys Knight & The Pips, Kayne West, Jose Gonzales, and the Weakerthans. Occasionally the Deftones would slip in there or some odd DFA 1979 track. But over the past couple of weeks, If I Was Your Woman, has been officially supplanted by David Bowie’s Life on Mars. I don’t know why, but I love this song. Lyrically it is completely bonkers.
Sailors fighting in the dance hall / Oh man! Look at those cavemen go / It’s the freakiest show / Take a look at the Lawman.
I’m just mezmorized by it right now. It’s one of those epically dramatic songs that would be insanely funny for some formal moment in a movie or as a first wedding song. Almost up there with Public Enemy’s Welcome to the Terrordrome or Let’s Get Retarded In Here. Anyways, for some reason I can’t get it out of my freaking head.
First – It seems that Dooce came to Calgary. It’s a shame she didn’t drop by Tubby Dawg for a Gripper.
Second – Speaking of catchy tracks, The Shout to the Four Outs dropped by the CBC Radio 3 studio and laid down an awesome live session.
Third – I have finally found the website for the graphic design firm Hello Freaks. Why is this important? Well, because it contains a permanent link to thier Knock Out short film. Any movie which contains that much Charles Bronson and rocks out to Momma Said Knock You Out has to be priceless.
Fourth – Tonight! Woo-man
