Random Thoughts For The Mango Kid Friday October 6, 2006

It takes a lot to convince me to go to the Back Alley. Cheap Beer just doesn’t do it for me anymore. Watching tweens dance to Sepultura, is still pretty funny, but it just doesn’t have the same kick it used to. Watching buddies get tossed by bouncers used to be pretty funny, but now that were 26 it’s a pretty sad. But there is one thing that will always bring me back to the Crack Alley and that’s the Mango Kid.

The Mango Kid

Unfortunately, Mr. Danko Jones has become a fairly reclusive Rock and Roll god in Scandinavia. He’s become so unappreciated in Canada that he’s refuses to tour his home land. And rightfully so, the man headlines 40,000 plus festivals in Sweden and then has to come home and play places like the Back Alley. So when I found out He was going to be at the Back Alley I had to be there. Even, if it meant enduring the Back Alley and the Extreme Music Series Duff man.

So to show there is still love for the rock and roll preacher that is Mr. Jones, ctoverdrive is going to dedicate this week’s random thoughts to the Mango Kid.

First – I love both the Colbert Report and the Daily Show. It’s a sad state of affairs when people would rather get their news from the Comedy Network than CNN. Anyways, I’m digressing. As I said I love the Colbert Report, but the creepiest thing about the show is his loyal and ravenous army – the Colbert Nation. First they high jacked a naming contest for a Hungarian bridge and now they’ve named the Saginaw Spirit’s new mascot.

Second – It’s not Knowledge For Thirst, but it is still pretty funny. A review of the new Pepsi Fire & Ice combinations.

Third – If you don’t have plans for Halloween yet, Art Central is hosting a Monsters Ball on October 28th, 2006. Yes, you’ll get to parade around with the upper class of Calgary’s art community, but more importantly the Cryptomaniacs are headlining. Halloween and drinking with Zombies, it doesn’t get any better than that.

Fourth – Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate Events has come to a close.
